Innovate Finance meets with City minister
Innovate Finance has met with the new City minister to discuss a range of issues relating to the UK’s fintech lending sector.
Janine Hirt, chief executive of Innovate Finance, held a meeting with Andrew Griffith MP today (9 November 2022) to discuss “the continued support of government for our world-leading UK fintech sector”, Hirt said.

Topics covered included the role of small- and medium-sized enterprise (SME) lending and how fintech lenders can help to plug the funding crisis facing business-owners. Hirt said that it was a positive meeting and she looks forward to working more closely with the new City minister in the future.
“The minister and I spoke openly about investment and growth capital, the online safety bill, the vision for the UK to be the leading global digital finance centre, SME lending, and the power of fintech to support us all through the cost of living crisis and drive greater financial inclusion and wellness across the UK,” she said on business networking site LinkedIn.

Griffith was appointed economic secretary to the Treasury and City minister by prime minister Rishi Sunak on 27 October 2022. He was previously financial secretary to the Treasury between 7 September 2022 and 27 October 2022, during the Truss administration.
