“I am honoured to accept the appointment to the board,” Byrne said.
“Initiative Ireland was founded to deliver honest, fair and inclusive finance while helping to tackle the housing crisis.
“Over the past five years the company has become a price and trust leader in the property finance market.
“As we scale, we will work hard to ensure that we maintain and build on that trust with our clients and brokers, to help deliver much needed family homes nationwide.”
Prior to joining Initiative Ireland, she was a director of risk analytics in Citi Bank, having previously held roles in Ulster Bank, Danske Bank and EBS.
Initiative Ireland chief executive Padraig W Rushe said Byrne would bring a “wealth of experience and value.”
Initiative Ireland received financial backing from Goldman Sachs in September for its development finance partnership.
It also works with the Credit Union Development Association, which helps Irish credit unions to provide funding to approved housing bodies across Ireland through a new regulated fund.
